"Tulare and Fresno Counties are part of the richest agricultural region in the world, yet we are not living up to our potential and we face numerous problems that are not being adequately addressed. We need leaders with vision for a better future and I hope to be one of them."

Air Quality

Urban Sprawl and Farmland Protection

Effective Education

  • We must work with large dairies to reduce pollution.
  • Trees should be planted to reduce dust, smell and particulate pollution. This can be a “win-win” situation.
  • We must also move away from our dependence on gasoline and petroleum.
  • Landscaping should occur along all major highways.
  • Class I Farmlands should be conserved.
  • All new development should meet strict community standards.
  • We need to reconsider where growth should occur.
  • Lands near Visalia and the Highway 180 corridor should be protected.
  • The No Child Left Behind Act should be overhauled or revoked.
  • Vocational education should be expanded.
  • Current high school dropout rates are unacceptable.
  • Multilingual education should be encouraged.

Employment and Economic Issues

Appropriate Energy Sources

Immigration Reform

  • Large corporations should provide health care benefits and a living wage for their employees.
  • All foreign goods and products sold in the U.S. A. should meet our standards for fair labor practices and environmental and health regulations.
  • Money must be spent on Solar Energy Research and Development.
  • Alternative energies such as Methane, Wind Power, Geothermal and Small scale hydropower should be encouraged.
  • We must reduce our dependence on foreign oil in order to make a more secure nation, cleaner skies and a healthier population.

I do not blame any individual for wishing to immigrate and improve their lives. I do blame both the American and Mexican Governments for failing to address the needs of their peoples and for allowing such conditions to exist. We need to work toward some sort of legal amnesty program whereby those who already reside in the U.S.A. illegally can become full fledged residents and citizens and can contribute and partake in the improvement of our nations. We also must work toward improving living conditions in Mexico so that people can have a better future.

Foreign Policy and Trade

War in Iraq

The Protection of Civil Rights and Individual Liberty

  • We need Fair Trade, not Free Trade.
  • The rights of Workers, Indigenous Peoples, the Environment and Consumers need to be honored.
  • We must reassess our relationship with Latin America and no longer support corrupt dictatorships.
  • We must continue to work with China and India to improve our balance of trade.
  • If we claim to support human rights, then we should do so throughout the world.
We have entered into a costly and distressing war based on lies and misinformation. There are no good remaining options and we must do what we can to salvage a disastrous situation. Our troops have performed outstandingly, yet they have suffered, but not as much as the Iraqi people. Unfortunately (and predictably), we have become the Enemy. I support a planned withdrawal of our troops while still protecting our vital interests. If we reduce our dependence on Imported Oil, we will reduce the need to be involved in the volatile Middle East Region. Those responsible for this fiasco should be held accountable.

The Patriot USA Act is an immense assault on our basic rights as American Citizens. George Bush broke the law while spying on the American people and we have lost much of the privacy that we have come to expect. I support strengthening rules against terrorism, but the Patriot Act should be rescinded.

Health Care for All

Better Transportation Systems

Political Corruption and Ethics

We are in a crisis of health care and insurance.
  • We are the only major industrialized nation that doesn’t provide health care to its citizens.
  • Rising insurance rates are bankrupting companies like Ford and also the public sector.
  • We must explore National Health Care coverage, especially for children and the working class.
  • Private practitioners should still be available for those who can afford it.
  • Funding for AIDS and Cancer research should be increased.
  • Railways should be rebuilt. We should have commuter trains like in the olden days, but we should also explore high speed monorails especially between major urban centers.
  • The Yosemite Railway should be rebuilt in order to handle tourism.
  • Mileage requirements in cars should be increased as should the use of electric vehicles.
  • Engineering competitions should be held to design hover cars and hydrogen powered engines.

Both the Republican and Democratic parties have abused their power and have indulged in greedy and corrupt practices. The current Republican administration has been especially blatant. We need true lobbying reform and pressure from the outside public. This is one of the reasons for supporting the Green Party, it gives a chance for an outside opinion not tied to the political machines. The Abramoff Scandal is just part of the problem, have we all forgotten Enron? President Eisenhower was right in his farewell address to the American people when he said we should beware of the Military-Industrial complex because they have so much power and influence. We as a people need to challenge this influence by speaking truth to power.
