- Great grandson of Tulare County pioneers
- Graduate of California State University Chico with majors in Geography and International Relations, M.A. Geography
- Served 10 years in Calfornia National Guard 1/18th Cavalry Sqdn., 132nd Engineer Bn., 1/185th Armor Bn
- Elementary teacher in Porterville School District Instructor - Delano (Bakersfield College), National University- Geography, Environmental studies
- Own a small farm/nursery
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Worked in the fields of forestry, restaurant, construction, city planning, and agriculture. I feel that all this experience gives me a broad and realistic perspective that so many members of Congress seem to lack today.
- Traveled widely, especially in Mexico and Latin America
- Former boardmember of Porterville Educator’s Association, and member of Southern Sierra Archaeological Society,and several conservation groups
- After living in several places in California, I returned to the area ten years ago because I love this land and our Sierra Nevada mountains.

John Miller has lived in and traveled throughout Mexico and Central America. He has taught High School Spanish, ESL and Bi-lingual kindergarten. On May 1st, Mr. Miller addressed some of the 5,000 participants of the Immigration Rally and March that occurred in downtown Porterville where he spoke against HR 4437.
